Report on Anzura Conference
Canberra, Australia, October 11--14, 1996

As reported in the last edition of the Lone Star Light, we attended the Anzura Conference in Canberra, Australia. This Conference was held in the Blackfriors Reception Center which is a beautifully designed center with all areas opening into a central courtyard with flowering trees, shrubs and flowers in full bloom.

The title of the Conference was

Ascenders in the Evolutionary Arena --- The Beat Goes On

The presenters and their topics were as follows:

The entire presentation was well done, but being interested very keenly in some scientific statements made in The Urantia Book, Ken Glasziou captured my individual attention. Ken is a retired scientist who taught at the University of California at Berkeley. Nuclear physics or somewhere thereabouts was his area of expertise. He certainly supported statements from The Urantia Book although he did concede that we many not yet know all of the story or that we have all of the facts since science is continually changing its own ideas. Some of Ken's work will be placed in our Lending Library as we brought a small amount of it back.

The atmosphere and general strong unification of Urantia Book students was very evident and openly discussed. The statement that any division of readership was American and did not exist in Australia/New Zealand, was made very clear.

Several references were made to Matthew Block and the work he is doing on science research related to The Urantia Book. This writer's exposure to Matthew's work is limited to a very small degree, but let me assure you that what I have seen is very interesting. No doubt he ultimately will publish his findings. As you may or may not know a certain Martin Gardner has come out with some very 'jaundiced" and harsh review of the Book's science. Matthew's work will probably negate some of Gardner's work.

Science, Anthropology and Archeology in The Urantia Book

Another newsletter came from our fellow Soldiers in the Northwest, USA. It is extremely well done and on page 3 there is a poem by Bert Cobb entitled Jesus Was a Working Man. Bert recited this poem at the IUA Conference in Nashville in August.

No matter where you travel, it seems there are "Soldiers of the Circles" in training, if you know where to look. Could it be that part of our collective work as soldiers is to be sure we know where to look as we become more mobile?

With the onrushing avalanche of telecommunication, it is apparent that worldwide communication is not only possible, but is going on regularly for those who are geared up for it and who want to participate. Being able to instantly communicate with people all over the world without leaving your home may or may not make our troops come together as we all hope it will. It opens a new arena for conflict for those inclined to inflict their point of view on others. We are told that "Evolution is slow but thorough." No doubt this is true, but communication is becoming very fast. An out-loud thought, "Can this old man learn to use email, internet, and whatever else is on the horizon???" Only time will tell.
