DAWNING SEQUENCE

Painting by Susan Sedon Boulet

The ROBINS begin with their eager song
even before it’s light.

Then the DOVES join in with their mournful call
to chase away the night.

Next the SNIPE will enter the chorus
with the whirring of his wing,

which indicates to the SPARROWS,
they may all join in to sing.

MAGPIE lends to the feathered choir
when he adds his raspy cry,

And by then the golden rays of the sun
light up the eastern sky.
